Early Life

Rick Ross or originally known as William Leonard Roberts II was born on the 28th of January, in 1976 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Raised in the humble place of Carol City, Florida.

Before he was known to be a great rapper, he graduated from Miami Carol City Senior High School and attended Albany State University with a football scholarship.

In the year 1995 of December, Ross was working as a correctional officer for an 18 month period, and resigned in the year 1997 of June. Before his career went uphill, Rick was a low-time rapper who had made his debut under the pseudonym Teflon Da Don.

Later on, he changed his nickname to Rick Ross in the middle of the 2000s. The name Rick Ross was inspired from a well-known character “Freeway” Rick Ross, who was a drug kingpin. 

In 2006, Rick Ross had released his debut single titled “Hustlin” and became the main topic in a bidding war. He got multiple offers and that includes Diddy’s Bad Boy Entertainment and Irv Gotti’s Murder Inc. which are both huge industries. Two (2) years later, Ross worked hard and released another album in 2008, titled Trilla. As usual, it debuted to be number one at the Billboard 200 album chart. 

Ross had been busy and has funding several record label including Maybach Music Group in the year of 2009 which he released his studio albums titled Deeper Than Rap (2009), Teflon Don (2010), God Forgives, I Don’t (2012), Mastermind (2014), Hood Billionaire (2014), Black Market (2015), Rather You Than Me (2017), and Port of Miami 2 (2019), which all of it had been a great hit.

In the early months of 2012, Rick Ross’ name was proclaimed as the Hottest MC in the Game by no other than MTV. Ross has been claiming its fame continuously when he appeared on VH1’s popular show Snoop and Martha’s Potluck Dinner Party. In the episode, Rick was paired up with Martha Stewart to cook some food. 

Legal Issues

Ross, just like any other popular rapper or artist. One of the common issues is about guns and drugs, and other lawsuits from various people in the music industry.

In 2008, Ross was arrested due to marijuana and gun charges. Officer Rey Hernandez, who was in a deposition that time, who is also a Miami Beach cop arrested Ross. Ross’s lawyer asked the officer incharge why Ross’s case was assigned to the gang task force.

The officer claimed that Ross claimed to be in connection with the Triple C, which is also known as Carol City Cartel, and other known gang members. However, officer Hernandez cannot provide any proof of Ross’s affiliation with the said gang group. 

2008 of August, Youtube entertainer DJ Vlad had filed a lawsuit for an assault and battery against Ross. The famous Youtube entertainer claimed that Ross had planned an ambush on the said entertainer in Houston in the 2008 Ozone Awards, Texas for the reason of asking about Ross’s past as a correctional officer. 

Later then, in June 2010, the famous “Freeway” Rick Ross had sued the rapper for using his name by filing a copyright infringement in a federal court located in California. On the 30th of December, 2013, the court laid on the side of the rapper Rick Ross, allowing him to continue using the name “Rick Ross” based on a First Amendment ruling. 

In 2009 of February, the documents shown had revealed Ross’ financial status which are far from the image he liked to portray. Ross stated that he owned three cars which are 2004 Maybach which costs $55,000, a 2007 Cadillac Escalade in the amount of $30,000 and a 2006 Infinity Q56 which costs $30,000.

Ross, later on then revealed that he owned jewelries which cost $45,000 which then contradict and meant that all the jewelry he wore in most of his videos and TV was either fake or borrowed. In the document, it revealed that his total monthly mortgage payments were in the amount of $9,700 and spent more than $7,000 more than he earned. 

Ross has made it through the headlines in the year 2014 after spending as much as $5.8 million on a 54,000 square foot, 109 rooms mansion outside of Atlanta on 235 acres of land, which is previously owned by the boxer Evander Holyfield. The place was considered as the largest home in Georgia. 

In the month of October of 2020, Rick Ross throwed down $1 million to gain an additional 87 acres of land near his mansion in Atlanta. Making it from 235 acres to 322 acres. He even named his property as “Promise Land.”
